How Can a Deacon Help You?
Visiting you - Your deacon will attempt to visit you if hospitalized and also will be making occasional visits on their families throughout a year.
Rejoicing with you - Your deacon would love to rejoice with you when you have victories that are won for Christ.
Being your friend - A deacon is there to listen and care.
Support for times of crisis - Deacons will be there with you a time of crisis or try to link you with a person or agency that can help.
Answering questions about your faith, our church or our association of churches - Your deacon will try to find the answers you want or need.
Helping link you to other families within our church - Deacons will encourage you to participate in social activities to get you together with others in our church and become a closer part of our church family.
Help find ways for you to serve - Noting your gifts, talents and skills your deacon will encourage you to serve.
Praying with and for you - Your deacon is praying for you and your family. If you have any requests feel free to call on them.
Deacon Job Description
A deacon has the biblical mandate of being a servant. To be elected to the office of deacon he must be in compliance with the requirements in Acts 6 and 2 Timothy 3.
The duties of a deacon include:
1. To seek the salvation of the lost by a life testimony, sharing of the gospel as occassion arises, and visiting guests of our church.
2. Devote themselves to the spiritual welfare of the members of Fox Valley Baptist Church.
3. Be in regular attendance at the services of Fox Valley Baptist Church.
4. Be in regular attendance at the meetings of the Deacons.
5. To assist the Pastor in the administration of the ordinances.
6. To assist in enlisting members into active service.
7. To ascertain the needs of the members of Fox Valley Baptist Church and to recommend for their relief using the Benevolent Fund as designated in the Church Constitution if needed.
8. To make recommendations to the church on action deemed in the best interest of the church as approved by the majority of the Deacons.
9. To use all proper efforts to reclaim such members that may stop regularly attending and/or living in accordance to God's Word.
10. To be an example of believer's conduct to new Christians in church attendance, service and conduct.
11. To assist the Pastor in the administration of Fox Valley Baptist Church.
12. To assist in church discipline.
13. To regularly contact those on their Deacon Care list for the purpose of determining spiritual or physical needs, encouraging spiritual growth and building relationships within the body.
14. To assist in the visiting of the sick and shut-in for the purpose of encouragement, prayer and spiritual enrichment.
15. To help this church fulfill its mission.
