Mission
We believe that God gave parents the responsibility to raise and educate their children. We partner with you to help you achieve that goal. As a Christian school we use the Bible for the basis of our worldview.
At Griffin, we teach the value of a close relationship with the Lord. The first step is to trust Christ as personal Savior. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Once a person has trusted Christ, Philippians 1:6 tells us that we can be confident that "He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;"
Our goal is to follow the instructions clearly given in God's Word:
-
Train a child academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically (Proverbs 22:6)
-
Prepare for Spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:10-18)
-
Pass on the knowledge and fear of the Lord (Duet. 4:10)
-
Instruct children to imitate Christ and not the world. (Duet. 18:9; 1 John 2:15)
-
Encourage service to the Lord (Romans 12:1-2)
Mastery
At our school, we strive to build confident, independent students by assessing and targeting the reasons behind academic frustrations in math, reading, and language with diagnostic tests. Using the results from these tests we are able to create a personalized path your child will take to succeed in school. Through positive reinforcement and the proven method of Master Learning (70% or higher scores), we are able to help your child achieve success. Individualized programs give students ownership of their learning. Each aspect of their work is geared toward meeting specific goals, such as comprehension or critical thinking. Students are taught how to learn independently - a skill needed in college. Our students will understand that they play an integral role in their own success. This, in turn, grows into improved confidence and enthusiasm for learning. By working alongside parents, we are able to prepare your child for the challenges ahead.
Doctrine
Our school doctrinally maintains:
A Fundamentalist Position: We use the name "Fundamentalist" because it means that we stand on the fundamentals of the Christian faith. We believe in the inspiration of the Bible, the second coming of Christ, and salvation by grace through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and a literal heaven and hell.
A Separatist Stand: We ask that the faculty, staff, and students refrain from drinking, smoking, and to exercise discernment in regards to sources of entertainment (i.e. TV shows, movies, music). We do not fellowship with theological liberals or New Evangelicals, and as a Christian institution of learning we have no associations with any convention, council, or group which could keep the faculty or administration from exposing the apostasy, heresies, an sins of the day.
History
Griffin Christian School is named after William P. Griffin, a former pastor of Fox Valley Baptist Church who went home to be with the Lord in April of 1998. Pastor Griffin was called to the pastorate in 1966 after serving as a missionary in Brazil. From the beginning of his pastorate, it was an intention of Pastor Griffin to open a school on the FVBC property to provide a Christian education alternative for the greater Dundee/Carpentersville area. Before any action on this could take place, the Lord led Pastor Griffin back to the mission field in 1973.
Although he was back on the mission field, Pastor Griffin's vision remained alive with the church. After his departure, the church building was expanded to include classrooms and a gym. In May of 2004, FVBC formally approved the establishment of the school.
